YONA regularly receives visits from professional musicians from abroad. These visits are often combined with workshops and concerts. We have also collaborated with school and youth orchestras who tour Namibia and do Side-by Side workshops and concerts with us.
Regular concerts are an integral part of YONA. Performances are not only in traditional venues, but also in shopping malls, community centers, schools, churches and old age homes. YONA aims to serve the community by bringing music to them.
Our annual orchestra festival takes place in the winter holidays around June and July at the National Theatre of Namibia. Children and youth from all over Namibia can take part in this festival, which consists of one week’s rehearsals, a Faculty Concert and two Gala Concerts. International and local faculty members coach the various ensembles and the symphony orchestra. This event is a golden opportunity for students to meet other young musicians from the rest of the country, to improve their playing, make beautiful music together, and have lots of fun together.
